Finally, after 1 whole week of sleeping at random hours + waking up at random hours + half a bar of milk chocolate + 3 mugs of coffee + 2 carton of fruit juices + lack of motivation + argument with my supervisor, who he will grade my project + surfing the net + reading book finally paid off, as i have submitted my psf 14 hours before the deadline after watching 007: Quantum of Solace to make sure i hit the submit button before i went black out.
The goal of the psf is for your supervisor and advisor as well as other thingys out there to know what are you doing, how are you going to do it, and what is your plan to do it. psf will be used against you, as in grading and compared with your outcome and management of your project. In one line: do it too good, you waste the surprise element; do it too bad, you fucked yourself up.
Psf come in when you reach level 3 real fast, well basically i felt that people who planned for the fyp scheduling was not really bright. Lets just say he is bright at some point, probably 5% of everything, you can say someone is bad at things when they can paid while they are still bad at it.
The orientation for year 3 student is on wednesday, the last week of june, as usual the orientation is 3 days, and they will usually repeat more or less the same thing like what they did in year 1 and year 2, which make it so lame that i vote never to attend any of it, other then level 3 orientation. Day 1 is the day that you get your student card, booklet regarding what you going to do with your final year project and other stuffs that basically you can throw them away. On day 1, they begin to talk about your final year project, which is a project that you are required to get it done within the 2 semester, more or less of 9 months.
In the booklet, it is attached a dateline regarding your draft project proposal. The form is made for IT student at mind, so basically business student and media student are left lofting around. I went to talk to the admin, which i was provided a copy of the form by her, which the counter admin staff has no knowledge of it. I told her the briefing only started on wednesday and it is not possible to get it done by friday, when you are required to talk a lot more stuff such as the problem statement, the objectives, and the methods which all of these will not be a proper one if you need to rush things out in 2 days time, given that you are at 80% of your performance. After much talk, i was manage to get a extension until monday, which i have sufficient time to dig a topic out, unlike others who used their RESM assignment to submit as their proposal which is invalid, but still acceptable to apiit standards.
1 week after your draft submission, they will now assign you a lecturer as your supervisor, The lecture can be NOT of your major, or it might be, Good news for media student is that you will have a lot of different things to deal with, as you know the doctor has turn to a part time lecturer and he no longer hold any responsibility to be a supervisor, but still he will clear your doubts when you have some questions. Again as of malaysia standard, some may get their supervisor on the first, some may get on the second, like me they overlooked my proposal, and some may not be so unlucky that they need to submit their proposal again as apiit has lost it. I manage to contact my supervisor by catching him after his class, which was after being told that you cannot intercom the business cluster lecturers in incubator 2, you can only email them to contact with anyone there, they won't call anyone for you or provide you with any lead. I manage to get to hold a mandatory supervisor-supervisee meeting with him on at the 3rd week, which is near to 1 weeks behind apiit schedule.
2 weeks after the meeting, with be the psf submission day, which you are required to complete the psf form, which is not really that hard if you manage to complete your project proposal which i fail to do so due to time constrains, of being either i get my supervisor late (with alot of useless talking from apit), or giving in a 50% of my proposal. not much choice eh.
Please do kept in mind that psf is personal, as it is your project, it was never the less funnier than it could be when jjs call for a emergency briefing session for the business students as well as the media students. After he dismiss the business group, we are called in for a more sort of private brief, where he says that he had been listening of a lot news being spread that there is no media lecturer being looking after the media student, and the project is the student work, not the supervisor, the supervisor is only to watch and give comments. somehow at some unknown reason, he lost my respect. sadly, but thank god that i know where is my project heading to.
After torturing myself for 1 week, i found out a very critical thing of psf. it is that there is no one out there you can trust, as it was in Quantum of Solace.
