Mix On Campus
The Mix08 Mix on Campus is mix the mix on campus 08 is an event to let the students to know about cutting-edge technologies that Microsoft has in the creative and business industries. More info please visit MIX Being in the organizing team in Apiit was a challenge to work with people with different background, we have 5 Computer Science people, 2 Marketing people and 1 Web development dude in the team and we have no knowledge on what is Mix in the 1st day of the meeting. Planning seems smooth where we know what we wants, yet wave and wave of problems pop up, materials for the whole event is not provided, one of us does not know how to communicate with some print industries to get a poster out, one of the MSP having a hack of his time getting a transfer to other college. Which result the delay of the whole event, yet still we manage to get it rolling.
Rushing things before the due date is common in apiit, unless you are john.
GOMC, The Google online marketing challenge
A online marketing campaign where student will required to use Google Adwords to promote an organization that has not hear of Adwords.
This is how it works (From: http://www.google.com/onlinechallenge/)
Student teams will receive US$200 of free online advertising with Google AdWords and then work with local businesses to devise effective online marketing campaigns. Teams outline a strategy, run a campaign, assess their results and provide the business with recommendations to further develop their online marketing. Teams submit their reports and are judged by a panel of independent academics from all over the world.
Being in an IT college, I always thought that we are in trend, yet it was seriously turned down by my marketing lecturer when he said that "Google what online marketing challenge, never heard of it." Yet thanks to some other dudes out there who are looking for team members in the GOMC came along and pick me up! Thank God for that.
Our team consists of 6 members; 1 from games development, 2 from marketing, 3 from IT, the challenge in the GOMC is wholesome. Starting with going through the barriers of communication within members; figuring how to work the google "combo pack" and ending with the client corporate communication.
Things seems easy in the 1st week, and got reallly ugly starting the 2nd week when we found out that we ourselves lack of IT background as well as market background on the client target market. The learning process is fast pace, from knowing Adwords to using Adwords.
Unlike most of the team in our college, we are got an extra USD50.00 worth of Adwords funds to begin our testing. After spending one week to test, it seems that Adwords is easy to use. Not till our group leader start to bombard us with tweaks and tips of using Adwords which result us to read through every bits and pieces starting from "dominating adwords" to "going natural".
In Adwords what we found out is how to get the correct sweet spot of keywords to fits the eye of the web surfers, which will be the keywords, the landing page and the offers. With the GOMC result coming out real soon, I do hope we can get the free all paid trip to the G-spot of google.. hmn. Maybe just a dream-on.
Getting a job
Suddenly I was shock that my account balance was below the 1K limit, and hell I do really need to get a job to pay off my expenses, and here I go back to the ez.bets backend database support company. Jim, thanks, but I really need to go, the culture is killing my creativity.
Working and getting my arse kicked
