The original picture of the desktop can be get at here. The rainmeter, can be downloaded at rainy's (customize skin is available at customize.org), give users a customizable performance meter, time and weather as well as a RSS reader for the users.
I have disable the vista aero, the dude that support those cool vista gadgets and a real sucker that eats of bits of your precious resource. A note about the vista gadgets, they are cool, only if you have two 26-inch wide screen monitor and a hell load of time watching the gadgets.
As you may see, I has move most stuff from the desktop left only a 50% yet to complete "The Bank Job" torrent that is being download with Opera.
Opera, a swift knife browser that has a lot of stuff pack in it. The current version im using is 9.50, which is much more stable that the perior ones. Although i still prefer the 9.20 version that give make your mouse look stupid as you are able to manage all the navigation and clicks with the keyboard itself.
Under the 9.50 preferences, you may choose to use the shortcut key of 9.20, num pad 1,2 to shift through tabs. Although i do felt that the opera skin is ugly (i still like 9.20 crimsom), yet thanks to the developers out there, you may download some already prepared skin or use your own css file to fulfill your wants.
The current opera im using is as my torrent manager, chinese character reader for notepad, mail client, feed reader and the defult brower. The downside of opera was that it is not compatible with alot of sites: M2U, google docs, google pages, tripod and ...
Overall to sum up, opera is for those who want to infest their virtual self on the internet community.
Cleaning up the desktop does means improve my workflow, with no word processing programs install on my rig, i am use google docs to fill the gap, google docs is a online word processing platform which enables you to do most of your doc, ppt, xls and pdf's job when you does not have any microsoft office packs install in your computer, the later google docs upgrades with the google gears, which enables you to process your files offline, and sync it when you goes online.
google docs lets you view your slides, but you will need to upload the slides everytime. To view slides offline, you may think of getting the powerpoint viewer, a quick installation that let you view the slides only. Another file that come close to it is the visio viewer that only let you view the microsoft SPDesign Visio files.
By doing such, i have reduce alot of installation on my pc, which increase the performance. Yes, running Vista Business on 1G DDR1 at a 1.8Mhz AMD 3000+ core is slow (Half way listening to song you may get a sudden lag).
For those out there who think of switching from XP to Vista while you have a Mid-end PC for XP, well you can stop thinking of that if you are going to get a Mid-end experience from Vista.
